Welcome
to spring — the time of new life, new hope and new energy!
As the trees bud and the flowers bloom, we see God's hand at work once again, bringing life to what appeared to be dead. Though we may easily take these actions for granted we certainly would take notice if spring were never to arrive. Perhaps it is not spring that we take for granted, but the God who brings it about! In Romans 1.20 we are reminded "since the creation of the world God's invisible qualities - his eternal power and divine nature — have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that men are without excuse." God has such a great desire to have people know him - and the wondrous gifts that he brings - that he remains continually creative in revealing himself to the world. You can see him in the wonder of April showers. You also can see him in the May flowers, However, it is through his word that he fully reveals himself to us and draws us into a life-giving (and changing) relationship. Spring is but an appetizer - drawing us toward greater tilings to come. Yes, it leads us into summer. And YES. it also is designed to lead us into asking more about the God who brings us both spring and summer. If you would like to learn more about the "sponsor" of these seasons, STL is here to help. Ways to Show Kids You Care
One struggle I have as a parent is carving out enough time to connect with my children. It is easy to be present in body but absent as far as engaging them in a relationship. I found an article that lists 150 ways you can reconnect with your children in meaningful ways as well as the children you come in contact with. Here are just a few: 1. Notice them. 2. Smile a lot. 3. Listen to them. 4. Play with them. 5. Read aloud together, 6. Hug them. 7. Tell them you love them. 8. Notice when they are acting differently. 9. Delight in their discoveries, 10. Play outside together. 11. Laugh together. 12. Look in their eyes when you talk with them. 13. Listen to their stories. 14. Kneel, sit, or squat so you're at eye level with them. 15. Create a tradition with them and keep it. 16. Be consistent. 17. Tell them about yourself. 18. Ask them to help you. 19. Applaud their successes. 20. Be flexible.
